Most of these second hand purchases aren't occurring somewhere you easily get a receipt from, and it seems unfair for a store like Gamespot (or even Microsoft, for that matter) to get saddled with a worthless console. Did you friend buy a new copy of MW2 for the PS3 after he traded his XBOX 360? Just curious. His 360 was modded and he found out he got banned. He left right away to EB Games, traded in his 360 and bought a PS3. I'd be sceptical of any system anywhere, I think most companies would exercise a refund policy if you found some sort of reason it was defective such as it being modded.
