Link gets new instrument in Spirit Tracks

OcarinaTrash

The Official Nintendo Magazine has revealed that Link will continue his musically inclined nature when the game releases December 7th. In his latest adventure, Link will be able to play the Spirit Pipes. The pipes are played by utilizing the DS’ built-in microphone.

According to ONM, the guardians of each land will teach you a song that will restore the tracks to the temple. Once you play the song correctly, you’ll be able to take on the temple.

It is interesting to see a musical theme continue within the Zelda games. Are you glad Link’s getting a new instrument or would you prefer a return to the Ocarina?

  • Nicely done! I only remembered the horse grass in TP and of course the flute in Legend of Zelda on NES. Although not necessarily representing the times, I think pipes might be pretty nifty.
  • Um... apparently we've forgotten about all the other musical instruments in the series since... such as Link playing the guitar in Majora's Mask, the harp in Oracle of Ages, the conductor's baton in The Wind Waker, and horse grass in Twilight Princess. And then you've got the non-Link instruments such as the violin and lyre in The Wind Waker.

I'm actually surprised they aren't giving Link something a little more modern... considering that this game apparently takes place after the start of Hyrule's industrial revolution.

Ocarina is a classic and what we remember from LoZ. They shouldn't tamper with what we know and love. I have a bad feeling about this.
