Game Boy inducted into Toy Hall of Fame
Hey, its not a toy! Its a handheld portable gaming device. GEEEeeez.
Ok, yeah, its a toy. And now its a Hall of Famer, too! The Game Boy makes its Toy Hall of Fame debut alongside two other classics, the ball, and the Big Wheel, chosen from 12 finalists that included the ball, Big Wheel, Cabbage Patch Kids, Game of Life, Hot Wheels, Nintendo Game Boy, paper airplane, playing cards, Rubik’s Cube, sidewalk chalk, toy tea sets, and Transformers. The Toy Hall of Fame, located at the Strong National Museum of Play and established in 1998, has inducted 41 other toys in the past, from the Atari 2600 to the Easy Bake Oven.
While there won’t be a ceremony per se, you can visit the museum this weekend to celebrate the inductees past and present. Be sure to stop by the Berenstein Bears exhibit while you’re at it. No particular reason. The Berenstein Bears were just awesome, that’s all.
