As part of Nintendo’s initiative to increase digital download sales, Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata announced that demos of select WiiWare titles will become available for download.  This trial program will be Nintendo’s first offering to allow for Wii title demos.  Currently, Nintendo allows DS demos using the Wii’s Nintendo Channel and a Wi-Fi connection.

The program, which will start later this month, should help titles that seem to go unnoticed on the service.  The average sales for WiiWare titles are significantly lower than that of Sony’s PSN and Microsofts XBLA.

It is unclear what titles will get the demo treatment, or if publishers have a say.  Anything that improves Nintendo’s online and download support is a step in the right direction.
