Is Nintendo joining forces with…7-11?

So, in Obscure Nintendo News Today, rumor has it that Nintendo might be pairing with Seven & i Holdings Co. (operators of the 7-11 and Ito Yokado stores) to provide special bonuses exclusively to DS players. Visitors will be able to receive coupons and fliers, and even get “guidance and info” via the DS while in the store.

Strangely, this actually makes sense to me. I live not too far away from the nation’s highest profiting 7-11. You know where its located? Across the street from Digipen Institute of Technology. Yeah. I’m told there’s a steady stream of would-be programmers running in and out of there like a line of ants hauling away a corpse. People whose entire diets consist of WoW edition Mountain Dew and fistfuls of Chex Mix. In other words, this could be enormously profitable for 7-11. Well, if we can get the Japanese hooked on Doritos that is.

Nintendo is said to be doing a test run at Ito Yokado stores soon, and in a rare move, even semi-confirmed it, saying:

“We have no official comment at this time, and moving forward, this is something we are looking into.”

Good enough for me! Wonder if they’ll try to roll out something similar here in the States. Lord knows we could make it worth their while.

  • Wow yeah I think I vaguely remember seeing Mtn Dew on the can...guess I hadn't put two and two together!
  • "Mountain Dew should just change their name to that" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Dew

lol! I guess it's a broader branding move than I suspected when I first saw it in the grocery store. Well played, Pepsico!
  • LOL it may be, I admit I'm not update to date on my txt speak. Given their catering to the gaming crowd, Mountain Dew should just change their name to that :P

Also, I have a feeling that WoW edition MTN DEW (lol) is the same exact kind as the Halo 3 edition. I have an old can of the Halo 3 stuff. I may be conducting a taste test later on today.
  • "WoW edition Mountain Dew" - isn't the name for that MTN DEW? :) Must smash vowels!
