Original Metroid Fan Art by Mikaël “Orioto” Aguirre

I actually had quite a bit of discussion at work yesterday about the Metroid series. One of the kids at the high school I work at was wearing a hat that looked like a Metroid, and one of my co-workers started talking about the “JUSTIN BAILEY” code and how the original Metroid for the NES was the best game of the series. When asked what other Metroid games he’d played, he said that was as far as he got.

Once you’re done scratching your head, you can enjoy the movie-like artwork above, titled “Zebes Cave” and created by deviantART user Orioto. You can check out more of Orioto’s game re-imaging through his profile. Be sure to send us any of your own artwork, and let us know your favorite game of the Metroid series.

With all the white, I was assuming Phendrana before I saw “Zebes.”

This is a gorgeous bit of art that really captures the atmosphere the series all but literally drips, in my opinion. Now when are Nintendo and Namco going to start talking about the upcoming new game again?

Still no Game Boy emulation on the DSi, making Metroid II the only game in the series that you can’t play on modern hardware (either Wii or DS Lite). With Konami remaking the old Game Boy game Castlevania: the Adventure for WiiWare and no new 2-D Metroid game in sight, I’d kill for an enhanced remake of Metroid II on DSiWare, say 1000 points. And it would have the added bonus of making Steve Jobs cry!

Other than Xtreme Beach Volleyball or Grand Theft Auto, Samus is probably the only woman in gaming that actually dresses in appropriate attire for her job and her surroundings.
