David Bowie to “dance” in LEGO: Rock Band

MTV Games and Warner Bros. Interactive have announced that David Bowie, or at least a LEGO who resembles David Bowie, will be featured in the upcoming LEGO Rock Band game.  Bowie will sing his classic tune “Let’s Dance.” The announcement comes a few weeks after the news that Iggy Pop will also be LEGO-ized.

Although David Bowie’s appearance makes the title more appealing, his characterization looks a lot more like Fred from Scooby Doo.

Yeah… Minifig Bowie really isn’t working for me…

Seems kinda blasphemous doesn’t it? I had a similar reaction seeing Cobain on GH5.

Part of it is just trying to digitize these iconic figures… But there’s another problem in that now they have to distill them down to minifigs! Essentially just 2D paint jobs on a series of identical models. It’s easy to LEGO-fy Indiana Jones or Han Solo… They have truly unique, iconic outfits, as well as props. These musicians don’t have quite so much going for them… When you see this-era David Bowie, yeah the suit is recognizable, but a big part of it is also his tall, skinny figure, which can’t really translate into minifig…

These are going to be hard work…
