As self-designated Virtual Console grouser around here, I wonder why it took so long to get Final Fantasy. How long ago did Square-Enix announce its intentions again?

And I wonder if the Japanese II and III will be brought over.

    ZOMGWTFBBQ!!111 No Square-Enix tax!

Nothing happens with any amount of speed on the Virtual Console. I’m surprised they didn’t just abandon the plan altogether! But… Final Fantasy!!!

“And I wonder if the Japanese II and III will be brought over.”

I seem to recall hearing that North America was only getting the games that were originally released here.

And there are no officially translated versions of the NES versions of II and III, so there’s that too.

No official translations of the original FC versions of II and III, yeah, but the WSC/PS1/GBA/PSP versions of II, at least, were close enough to the original that it shouldn’t take more than two unpaid interns an hour or so to graft over the text. They can even go over to Zophar’s Domain to download the necessary tools… >.>
