Over the past decade, SEGA’s been sticking to the “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” mindset with regards to getting a 3D Sonic game to work just right. Now, after seeing the diminishing sales and review scores of the Blue Blur on home consoles, the popularity of the Sonic Rush series, and the positive reaction to the partially 2D daytime levels in Unleashed, SEGA’s taking a new approach: an old one.
Sonic will be returning to his roots next year by arriving on consoles in an all-new 2D platformer. It’s codenamed “Project Needlemouse,” and will be in HD, but you have to assume for now that SEGA will release to A.) the platform with the largest userbase, and B.) the platform with the majority of Sonic fans. What do you think? SEGA’s listening to the fans, but can they get it absolutely right this time?
