Wii will support up to 32GB SD card streaming, very soon

SDcard

It has been a long time coming, but a solution to all those storage problems on the Wii is on the horizon. Starting with the release of Guitar Hero 5 there will be no barriers between streaming data straight off of SD cards, which is big news for DLC heavy titles like Rock Band and GH.

The card limit sits at 32GB, which (according to Activision) will hold around 800 songs. With the added functionality, players can now move over any World Tour songs they purchased without having to worry about clogging the fridge, and download full albums and such. This is a big step forward, and it opens some pretty awesome (and overdue) doors for developers.

Considering that 32 GiB rivals what hard drives looked like on the competition not too long ago, I wonder how much longer it will be before we start seeing some sort of MMO on the Wii. I still think a slightly touched-up (read “fixed”) version of Phantasy Star Online would make a killing as Wii Ware.
