Back when the Wii launched in 2006, most people were under the impression that the Wii Remote was capable of replicating any motion with 1:1 accuracy. Instead, we had to wait for the MotionPlus to really reach that level. So why idn’t the Wii Remote come with a MotionPlus in the first place? Well, as Shigeru Miyamoto told the Telegraph, that just wouldn’t have been practical at the time:
Also, it was not technically feasible for the technology to be realized with such a compact size. The fact we are now being able to sell MotionPlus at this price, at this size, is the result of technological advancements in the field of microelectro-mechanical systems, which took place after Wii launched.
I, for one, would have welcomed a 20-foot, 500-pound Wii Remote.
