97% of teenagers play video games, 3% are lame

group_2004

Did you know that teenagers play video games? It’s true. They’re not just for adults any more. A PewResearch center study shows that 99% of teenage boys and 94% of teenage girls play games. Of course “video games” in this context is kind of a vague term and can mean the occasional game of Scrabble on Facebook, but that’s a lot. 50% of teenagers surveyed had played a video game in the past day. 86% play on a game console and 73% game on a PC. Cell phone gamers came in at 48%.

The point of the study? To determine if civic outcomes are affected by video games. They are! Well, by multiplayer games, anyway, and mostly local multiplayer.

Anecdotal evidence shows that playing shooters online reverts you into a 12-year-old and removes every emotion that isn’t rage and every thought that isn’t hateful.
