Want more Chrono Trigger? Buy more Chrono Trigger

chrono-whozits

Well, Square Enix really knows how to talk to their fans. Vice president Shinji Hashimoto isn’t impressed with the mere 870,000 copies of Chrono Trigger DS that have been sold. Or the 2.3 million copies of the SNES version, or however many copies of the PlayStation version were bought by fans. If you want to see a sequel, you’ll have to buy Chrono Trigger again, maybe a third or fourth time. When asked about the possibility, he laughed (really) and answered the question with another question:

Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?

Because it’s popular, of course.

That’s not what the sales tell me! [...] If people want a sequel, they should buy more!

People want a sequel, and the fact that they try to make their own (a fact that Square Enix is well aware of) should be proof of that.

I can see why they wouldn’t be especially interested as the games are more or less wrapped up. Lavos is dead, the timelines realigned, etc. I mean, given the whole timetravel thing, there’s really ENDLESS possibilities for more and more stories, however unless they come up with something good, I can’t really see what else they WOULD do. I mean, yeah, you could do like RETURNS FROM THE FUTURE WITH A VENGEANCE BLARGH but that’d be kind of.. uninventive and boring. Yes, I am focusing on the plot more than gameplay, and while I will normally prefer a really fun game to a plot, I feel that in the case of Chrono (and RPGs in general), plot is generally the biggest focus.

Also it’d probably be in PS3 which would suck for those of us with not-massive-wallets.

    Square Enix is stupid
Why do they have to own my favorite series of games? they treat it so badly. I did at first believe that the game was wrapped up nicely with just chrono trigger and cross, but then i started watching the videos of crimson echoes (the hack that got shut down by SE) and wow, so far the plots been so well written and works really good! And compared to SE’s feeble attempt to branch the 2 games with CTDS (“oh hai im Dalton yu beat me imma make an army in porre and kill yu” and magus just forgetting about schala) crimson echoes has (had?) been doing a much better job at it.
I really lost alot of respect for the company these past few months.. and i really hope they realize after destroying a fan project that was 5 years in the making, that there is still a great deal of fans hoping for something new from the series.. but i guess they have their heads shoved too far up their a–holes to give a s–t!

you can also watch the walkthrough on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/CEMemorial)
as for the leak, i heard it’s an alpha with thousands of bugs. and i would just feel a little bad about downloading it considering the leak puts the creators in serious threat of a lawsuit

Yes, because we won’t buy Chrono Trigger for the third freakin’ time, we must hate the series. This was the second remake of Chrono Trigger since Chrono Cross itself was released!

It would have been something if the latest version actually expanded or improved upon what we’d already seen on the SNES and PlayStation, but it didn’t. No remastered score, no 3D graphics, just the same game as before with the $10 SE tax. Does the word “recession” mean anything to you guys? Yeah, I’m going to part with $40 for something that could very easily have been an $8 download from Nintendo or Sony.

And the most damning thing is that it sits on shelves right next to the fully enhanced remake of Final Fantasy IV, which is priced at $30.

I’ll just wait until it graces the bargain bin next year (much as the goddess-forsaken PSP remakes of Final Fantasy I & II did this year) and pick it up for $8 regardless. The store will take a huge hit on the game and be adverse to trying to sell just any old game from S-E and maybe S-E will learn their lesson!

(Disclaimer: I play a lot of Final Fantasy XI, I have a lot of pent-up rage against S-E as it is.)

There were a few new things in Chrono Trigger DS, but yeah, not $32 worth of new things that justified it not being a Virtual Console release. :P

So I have to buy it a third time so I can help make sure I see more of it?

I love the game but I just finished playing it on SNES again. I’m not going to be playing it anytime soon, even with new stuff.
