In an talk with Metroid veteran director Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja producer Yousuke Hayashi yesterday, it was confirmed that Metroid Dread does or did exist, and it may yet still have a future. Metroid Dread, as a refresher, was a long rumored, new 2D Metroid title for the Nintendo DS. There was even a coincidental mention of “Dread” in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption that led fans to jump onboard the Dread-ed bandwagon.
Sakamoto was asked if perhaps the Metroid Dread project evolved into what is now Metroid: Other M, the new Wii game which has its origins dating back to 2006. Seeing as Sakamoto’s done a lot of recent work with the handheld platforms, he would know. His translator answered back for him.
“He’s very familiar with that [game]. No, this is different.”
Yoshio Sakamoto finally chimed in for himself.
“The day may come when Dread hits the stores, but this one is something that’s completely different. This is Other M.”
Bam. Confirmation.
