E3 2009: Nintendo Press Conference Live Blog!
It’s time for the Nintendo Press Conference at E3 2009 to start at the Nokia Theater! Pete’s going to handle the live blog (below) and Twitter. Check out the news as it happens!

10:13 am – Conference ends. That’s it! Whew, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Golden Sun DS, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M… Not bad! Not as flashy as the Beatles, Tony Hawk, or Project Natal, but definitely an improvement over last year.
10:12 am – What about Nintendo? Reggie introduces a collaboration with Team Ninja. A trailer for Metroid: Other M shown. Game is a third person action game with full voice acting, FMV clips. Trailer is amazing, epic, complete with Ridley battle.
10:10 am – Dead Space Extraction trailer from EA shown. Reggie talks about opportunities for third parties on Nintendo platforms.
10:09 am – Capcom’s Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles trailer shown featuring gameplay and rendered videos.
10:06 am – Reggie back on stage. Plugs third party titles that are exclusive for Wii. Sega’s The Conduit shown via trailer.
10:04 am – Cammie introduces a second full 3D Mario title. Super Mario Galaxy 2 trailer unveiled, and you can ride Yoshi! New items like a spinning top shown, Bee Mario, giant snowballs, etc.
10:01 am – Iwata reveals Wii Vitality Sensor. You insert your finger and the device can detect your pulse, how nervous you are, how focused you are. The hope is for everyone to find a way to relax through video games. Iwata leaves, and Cammie comes back on.
9:59 am – Iwata talks about satisfying novice and veteran gamers, especially through Mario Kart Wii.
9:55 am – Iwata challenges the notion that the market expansion movement is beginning to fade. There are roughly 295 million people in Japan, North America, and Europe that actively play games. Roughly 149 million additional people say they might be willing to play video games. Iwata says there is a long way to go.
9:54 am – “Everyone’s Game” video montage shown. Satoru Iwata comes on stage.
9:52 am – The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks will be playable on the show floor this week.
9:51 am – DSi will allow you to upload your DSi photos directly to Facebook starting this summer.
9:47 am – Total DSi sales in America are over 1 million units in the two months since launch. DS Lite sales in the same time is 400,000. Flip Notes Studio will be available for DSiWare this summer. Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! will have a stage builder for you to also share with friends online. MvDK will be playable on the show floor, and available on DSiWare on June 8.
9:46 am – Talk about the DSi. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about that. Video montage of people on the street talking about how they enjoy the DS. Woo! It’s portable.
9:44 am – Style Savvy shown, localized from Japan and coming to North America. Fashion, shopping… what more could you want?
9:43 am – Ubisoft’s C.O.P.: Underground Recruit shown. It’s a DS game that incorporates third-person shooting and driving.
9:41 am – Cammie back on to talk. 100 million units for the DS sold. Talk about James Patterson’s mystery stories. James Patterson’s Womens Murder Club: Games of Passion from THQ trailer shown.
9:40 am – Golden Sun DS announced and revealed for DS. Trailer for the game shown with full 3D rendering.
9:38 am – Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story – Mario and Luigi are shrunken down and explore Bowser’s digestive system. North America and Europe will get the game this fall.
9:37 am – Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers trailer for Wii shown. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for DS also shown.
9:36 am – More third party games for sold for Wii, and then for DS, than on any other platform.
9:34 am – Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour 10, EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis, and Sega’s Virtua Tennis 2009 will all support the Wii MotionPlus. It seems they’ll come out in a few weeks and will be bundled with the Wii MotionPlus. Red Steel 2 will require WM+ and will also bundle with the accessory.
9:33 am – Reggie confirms the July 26th launch for Wii Sports Resort.
9:30 am – Bill brings out Reggie for some 3-point basketball. Some trash talking, and we’re off to a three-point competition from downtown. Reggie wins it on the last shot!
9:28 am – Archery. Press B to hold bow, hold Z to pull back string. You’ll have to compensate for wind and moving targets.
9:27 am – Sky diving demoed. Controller used to twist and turn in air, dive down, flatten out to grab friends. Reminds me of Pilotwings.
9:26 am – Bill Trinnen comes on to demonstrate Wii Sports Resort by jumping out of an airplane.
9:24 am – Video shows off Wii Sports Resort with Sword Fight, Basketball, Water Scooter, Ping Pong, Golf, Archery, Kayaking, Disc Dog, and more.
9:22 am – Wii MotionPlus video demonstration of 1:1 control shown. We’ll have this for you shortly.
9:20 am – Reggie comes on stage. He talks about interface – Wii Remote, Nunchuk, Balance Board, and Wii MotionPlus.
9:18 am – 6 new Strength and Yoga exercises added. The game will keep track of the calories you burn. New games: juggling, skateboarding, and a platforming game. Wii Fit Plus will be available this fall.
9:16 am – Nintendo pats their back with Wii Fit – 15 million copies sold. They’re looking for ways to make Wii Fit easier to keep up with and more accessible. Wii Fit Plus announced.
9:15 am – New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be playable on the show floor, and will hit stores in time for the Holidays this year.
9:14 am – Your friends can jump in and join in mid-game. New power-up revealed: the Propeller Suit. Everyone finishes the level by grabbing the flagpole. The game ranks each player after each level.
9:13 am – It’s four player co-op, but if you fall behind, you lose a life. You can also help each other out by carry each other.
9:12 am – Bill Trinnen comes on stage to help explain New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
9:10 am – Yup, looks like a 2-D Mario game with 4 people. Mario carries Luigi on his head to help him out. Co-op moves confimed!
9:08 am – Talks of taking Mario to a 4th dimension. Multiplayer?!
9:07 am – She eludes to taking control to the next big place, and moving franchises to places you can’t imagine. Mario is up on screen! Looks to be an throwback in some senses.
9:06 am – Cammie takes the stage, come on anecdotes! Or something less lame!
9:00am PT – Here we go! It’s the official start time, but conference has yet to begin. Oh excited!
