High Voltage Software is pouring a lot of their resources into the Wii. Their latest announcement is a game called Gladiator A.D., a gladiator-themed fighting game inspired by the movie 300. Design director David Pellas describes the gameplay:

Gladiator A.D. is not a traditional 3D fighting game. It’s more of a hybrid between 3D Fighting games like Bushido Blade and Boxing games like Fight Night. The action is intense, but the combat is strategic. You need to learn your opponent’s weaknesses and think through your attack patterns to succeed. There is no button-mashing here.

The crowd will react to your actions, cheering when you’re doing well, or booing and throwing things when you fight dirty. If the crowd loves you enough, you’ll be able to use special techniques.

Gladiator A.D. is planned for spring 2010. Another Wii game from High Voltage is due to be announced tomorrow. Stay tuned.

So… is it like Punch-Out in that each opponent is different, so you learn their moves and such?
