Why there’s no Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for Wii

You may have heard that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are getting an updated version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 via their respective download services. That’s all well and good, but what about Wii fighting game fans? Christian Svensson, Capcom’s VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development, explains:

This is a downloadable play, not a retail play. We don’t actually have any retail rights on this project. And there’s no way to get anywhere near the Wiiware filesize limit here.

The WiiWare size limit is said to be somewhere in the 40 meg area, which isn’t very much, and the Wii itself only has 512 megs of flash memory.

Oh, it’s not so bad. The Wii has its own Capcom vs. game anyway.
