Nintendo explains the “i” in “DSi”

The folks over at Tech Radar are a curious bunch. Not content with just assuming that the “i” in “DSi” was just a trendy letter, they decided to get in contact with Nintendo themselves for an official statement. They got two answers.

The “i” means “I” as in a reference to one’s self. Also as in ”This is my own personal device and everyone in my household should buy their own because they can’t use mine.”

The “i” is also a reference to the cameras, which function as the portable’s eyes.

See? They’re not trying to cash in on the iPod brand at all. Not at all.

So… “i” is supposed to contrast with “Wii?”

And even if they were being all trendy, it’d be the “iDS.” :P
