Former Sega of America employee Dean Sitton has made available, for the very first time, not one, but three different versions of the “Sonic Bible”, the document used as a guide in the localization of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game. The most interesting part of the Sonic Bible is Sonic’s back story. Apparently Sonic started off as a normal little hedgehog maned “Sonny” who lived behind a greasy spoon, who just happened to have a knack for running. The story doesn’t just cover Sonic, either. It includes the origins of Robotnik, the Chaos Emeralds, and even the gold rings. (Sonic apparently turned himself blue by running too fast. I don’t know how that works.)
Now, these documents may not be 100% legitimate. All we have to back them up is the word of a NeoGAF user who calls himself “TheSonicRetard.” Still, they do seem pretty real, and even if they’re not, it’s fun to speculate. You can find the download links for all three documents in the NeoGAF post linked to below.
