Wii-kly Update hints at ‘fun surprise coming soon’

whoah-cat

In addition to the WiiWare and Virtual Console games added to the store today, Nintendo squeezed in a little teaser about an upcoming surprise. In true big jerk fashion it comes with a “clue” that only makes me more confused, but tickles my fancy just enough to ruin my Presidents Day with over-speculation. Click over for the word straight from Nintendo.

In other news, the Wii-kly Update has a fun surprise coming soon for all our fans. We can’t tell you the secret just yet but maybe we’ll offer you some hidden clues. From AZ to NC, if you’re a fan, your applause could rattle your walls, windows, door. You might enjoy this news whether you live in a brick house or Vanderbilt dorm. Even people living along Route 286 in rural Pennsylvania ought to be excited. It’ll feel like a bunch of birthday greetings and, really, who could ask for more? But that’s about all we can say for now, so be sure to check future Wii-kly Updates.

My best guess (which I know is wrong so please hold the mocking to a minimum) is an updated Crusin’ USA brought to you by Google Earth where you can essentially set any path you want. Yeah? Maybe? Okay probably not, but feel free to post any other guesses in the comments section.

I hope they’re going for Earthbound, since I know tons of people who want that game on VC and lots of people have called NoA to release it and… I just hope they’ll release it… NOW O.O

According to Wikipedia and Google, PA 286 passes through Commodore, PA, Vanderbilt University is home of the Vanderbilt Commodores, and a group called “The Commodores” sang a song entitled “Brick House.” I’m not sure about the other clues/teasers, but it’s sounding like Commodore 64 games on the VC to me.

you are wise guppy, and i’m a little disappointed if that turns out to be right :(

No, I just have too much free time on my hands. XD

It still doesn’t explain “walls, windows, door” (only one door, and no ‘and’?), the connection between NC and AZ (why the USPS abbreviations rather than spelling them out?), or the “birthday greetings” thing (wishes? cards?).

I’m doubting they’d be this silly just to bring over something the Europeans have had for a while (did they do something like this when they introduced SMS support to North America?), so maybe they’ll be introducing something else besides the C64.

Japan only seems to have two games for the MSX, though, and I can’t think of any other consoles to release without going back to Colecovision, Intellivision or some flavor of Atari.

Upshot: No EarthBound, no SuperFX games, no Expansion Pak support, no Rumble Pak support. :/

    Possible lead on “NC?”

You know, as soon as I saw route 286, I instantly thought of being at an arcade playing Cruisin’ USA. Not to my surprise, I ended up seeing it a few lines under by the topic creator. It would be fun the way you described it, that game was awesome. Though TBH, I think the arcade with the steering wheel and pedals are what sell the game.
