Pulseman likely hitting North American Virtual Console

An ESRB rating for Pulseman, a Japan-only Sega Genesis game by Game Freak, has appeared for the Wii. Pulseman is an action platformer by the developer that brought us Pokemon. Gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of Mega Man X with less reliance on projectiles. Check out the video above for a better idea of what to expect.

There’s a fan-developed translation patch for the ROM floating around on the internet, but it’s unlikely that it will be used in the Virtual Console version. It’s unknown whether the story sequences will be translated from the original Japanese. No official announcement has been made regarding the release of this game, but ESRB ratings are usually a pretty reliable source for this kind of information.

Well it looks really fun but gah the sound is just all over the place. If the game’s audio is that grate-on-your-nerves then I’ll be more interested, but… gaah.

Yeah, I’m thinking that might be an emulator problem. The framerate had some issues in that video, too.

Yeah, the emulator is probably garbling the sound pretty badly, but I think that more than a few of us old-timey Nintendo fanbois have been spoiled by the sound on the NES and SNES.

Backbone couldn’t even be bothered to put Sonic 3 & Knuckles in Ultimate Genesis Collection. It’d be expecting way too much for them to think to put a Japanese game in it. (They’re not exactly competent.)
