Michael Torchia: Wii is contributing to obesity, damaging futures through motion controls

Michael Torchia, a man with his own radio show called Shape Up America, claims the Wii is, contrary to popular belief, contributing to the obesity epidemic and causing injuries to innocent consumers due to a lack of proper warnings for their innovative controls. He also claims that Nintendo, through television advertisements, misleads potential consumers into thinking that the Wii is a fun, family-oriented experience that can replace a real workout regime (because, you know, they said that) and as a result, more and more young children are staying indoors and playing video games, rather than running around, climbing trees and eating mud pies, a low-caloric food high in protein and worms. Torchia has retained a “prominent lawfirm” to prepare a class-action lawsuit against Nintendo in a desperate move for some cash to set things right in the world.

So because kids have a Wii, they are staying indoors to play video games? I guess if they had a 360 or a PS3 they would go outside and play….

Because February is a wonderful time to go outside and enjoy the weather in most of the country!

This “case” will be scrapped if he doesn’t have any actual evidence.

It’s always “computers are unhealthy” this, “video games are evil” that… Sheesh, I don’t think gamers (Or the littler ones’ parents) are being given enough credit.

Although some parents can b- ..But That’s a different debate.

    @ guppy, it’s 59 degrees outside where I am, normally it’s in the 30s.
Anyways, I think it’s more the culture of videogames that contributes a bit to obesity. You’re fooling yourself if you think that playing anything other that Wii Fit is going to contribute to any increase in health. If you’re relying on the Wii to get your exercise, you’re barking up the wrong tree.

Nintendo’s making a lot of money. People are suing them for the dumbest reasons. Coincidence?
