Bobwatch 2009: Bob Peloni denied Authorized Developer status by Nintendo

We here at the Tanooki haven’t posted anything about Bob’s Game developer Bob Peloni since he had that pretend nervous breakdown and then had that other pretend nervous breakdown. Since then he has died, been abducted by aliens, and vandalized the Nintendo World Store in New York. You may be wondering why he has been absent from our site. I can’t speak for the rest of the Tanooki staff, but I made a conscious decision not to post any more news stories about Bob’s publicity stunts. I decided that I wouldn’t write about him again until something at least marginally significant happened regarding his quest for a Nintendo DS development kit. Well, today, 17 weeks late, Bob has finally heard back from Nintendo. Take a look at their response after the break.

Thank you for your interest for Authorized Developer status for Nintendo DS.

We have completed our evaluation of your application and are unable to offer your company Authorized Developer status at the present time.

In evaluating developers, Nintendo looks for relevant game development experience. In addition, Nintendo looks for secure business facilities, sufficient equipment and staffing, financial stability and other attributes that would distinguish the developer.

Nintendo provides Authorized Developers with highly confidential information and many of Nintendo’s Licensees rely on recommendations and referrals by Nintendo to Authorized Developers. For these reasons, Nintendo exercises a very high level of discretion in approving only a select number of applicants.

In accordance with our policies, we are not able to re-evaluate requests for developer status for at least six months. Again, we appreciate your interest, and welcome any questions or concerns you might have regarding this decision.

Best regards,

Software Development Support Group & Licensing Department Nintendo of America & Nintendo of Europe

So there you have it. Bob lacks “relevant game development experience,” “secure business facilities,” and “sufficient equipment and staffing.” (He probably has money if he can afford to lock himself in a room for a hundred days, only coming out to take a trip to New York to hire some Asian girls from Craigslist to vandalize a store.) I probably wouldn’t trust him with any “confidential information,” either.

So does this mean it’s finally over? Not necessarily, at least in Bob’s mind. Though his webcam hasn’t moved in quite some time, meaning he may not be in his room at all, he seems to be planning to continue his protest right up to day 100. What he lacks in common sense, he makes up for in determination.

Isn’t he breaking his 100 day protest by going to the Nintendo World Store?
