Almost half of all games sold last year were for Nintendo systems

Nintendo game sales account for nearly half of all game sales in the United States in 2008. The Wii and DS together sold 132 million of the 268 million games sold last year, which gives Nintendo 49% of all game sales in 2008. Sony came in second with 86 million (or 39%) and Microsoft was third with 50 million (or 19%). Remember that unlike Nintendo or Sony, Microsoft doesn’t have a handheld to. What’s more, the Wii’s tie ratio (number of games sold for each console) is 6, identical to that of the PlayStation 3, reiterating the fact that Wii owners do, indeed, buy games.
