The DS was the best selling console of 2008 in Australia, for the third year running. That brings the total number of Australian DS systems up to 1.7 million, selling even more in 2008 than it did in previous years.
Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that the Wii has managed to sell a total of 1 million units overall in Australia. Nintendo has never been a hugely successful brand in Australia, so these successes are even more impressive. It took 111 weeks to happen, making it the fastest a console has ever reached that number in Australia.
What’s more, of the top 10 selling games last year, 8 of them are for the DS or Wii, including games like Wii Play (number 2), Wii Fit (number 1) and Brain Training (number 4). It must be nice to be Nintendo these days.
