Professor Layton and the silver screen
With Professor Layton and The Last Time Travel due out on Japanese shelves tomorrow (or “today,” if you want to get technical), fans can look forward to the series continuing onto the big screen. Famitsu has confirmed the production of Professor Layton: The First Movie, coming to theaters in January of 2010. The movie will bring an original story to the series, and will be fully animated - not live action as was suggested about a year ago. Think it’ll be in 3D as well?
Of course, this is all happening in Japan, where everyone loves Professor Layton. Here in the States, strategic marketing of the game helped to ensure lackluster sales and made it unlikely that Nintendo would publish the two DS sequels. If we’re going to see The First Movie make it across the pond, Level 5’s going to need a new game publisher over here, and they’re going to have to do some heavy promotion of the series.

It seems the prof is massive here in the uk, a couple of stores i’ve been into have been sold out. So there’s still hope for a western release
Wasn’t it the top selling DS game for like a month in North America? It may not be Pokemon, but I wouldn’t write it off just yet.
