What a big month for console birthdays. First the Wii and now the DS. Four years ago today, the Nintendo DS was launched in North America. Since then, it has worked with it’s big brother, the Wii, to bring the gaming industry to a whole new level.
It’s true that the Wii is a huge force in opening gaming up to a larger audience, but it’s continuing the work that was started by the DS. Games like Brain Age, combined with an easy-to-use touch screen interface and a sleek iPod-like look, began the movement to bring gaming to the mainstream.
So happy birthday, DS. I bought you when you were still phat, and I love you even more now that you’ve lost the weight. I will keep you at my side forever. Or at least until the DS2.
