Wii owners do buy games, now hush

A lot of people are under the impression that people buy Wiis and just play Wii Sports forever. Not true, says Gamasutra, who have calculated the tie ratio (number of games sold per console) for each of the three current generation consoles during their first 23 months on the market.

As you can see, the Wii tie ratio is actually slightly higher than that of the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 had a higher attach rate after its first 23 months, but it had also been the only current generation console on the market for its first year. As it stands, people are buying games for every console they own. That really shouldn’t be surprising.

The Gamasutra article has some very interesting information about tie ratios and the factors that affect them, so check it out if you’re in the mood for more pretty graphs and statistics.

Nice to see a news site say something positive about the Wii. Man am I sick of reading negative articles on the Wii’s success, then going to the comments to see someone say “Oh, if the Conduit sucks, I’m selling my Wii. Because for some reason I bought a Nintendo system but don’t like Mario, Metroid or Zelda, and the ever increasing flow of quality 3rd party titles is meaningless to me. I’m bland like many modern gamers, interested only in first person shooters, which come in abundance on the other two platforms, yet, I repeat, I bought a Wii for some odd reason.”

Some of us love our Wii. Some of us play it regularly and own lots of software for it. And I’m glad there are figures to back that up. Thank you Tanooki for remaining a site for -fans- of Nintendo products, and not a forum for complaints.

    @ Wonkoo

I’m also getting tired of the “My Wii is collecting Dust…” comments as well. I agree, I have over 30 titles for my Wii, and ALWAYS gets regular play…
