A lot of people are under the impression that people buy Wiis and just play Wii Sports forever. Not true, says Gamasutra, who have calculated the tie ratio (number of games sold per console) for each of the three current generation consoles during their first 23 months on the market.
As you can see, the Wii tie ratio is actually slightly higher than that of the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 had a higher attach rate after its first 23 months, but it had also been the only current generation console on the market for its first year. As it stands, people are buying games for every console they own. That really shouldn’t be surprising.
The Gamasutra article has some very interesting information about tie ratios and the factors that affect them, so check it out if you’re in the mood for more pretty graphs and statistics.
