That 17.5 average is misleading, because it assumes that Sony was able to produce that many per year as early as 2000. Sales usually speed up as they go due to demand increasing because of expanded game libraries and production increase.

I think you'll be happy with where that puts the Wii.

Well, looking at the long run, I checked wikipedia for the sales figures for the ps2 and the wii. The ps2 has been out since 2000 and has reached 140 million units, that comes out to about an average of 17.5 million units per year it has been available. The wii reaching 34.55 million units in two years it has been out, comes to an average of 17.275 million units. I guess if we assume sales will stay constant for the wii, and that it has the longevity it needs to be around long enough it could potentially pass the ps2 :o)

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I may be wrong, but I read that the Wii has already sold more in its first two years than the PS2 did.

I love nintendo as much as the next person, but I don't see how anything will ever surpass the sales of the ps2 :o)
