Wii surpasses Nintendo 64 total lifetime sales

Nintendo 64: 32.9 million
Nintendo Wii: 34.55 million
That’s the score so far, and the game isn’t over yet, at least for the Wii. You may remember earlier this year when it surpassed the lifetime sales of the GameCube. This is only two years into the life of the console, too, so it’s pretty impressive.
There’s no doubt that Nintendo owes their current success to their efforts to expand the market and target previously ignored demographics. The Wii is well on its way to becoming the best selling video game console in history.

What’s the number for the PS2? Quad-zillions?
Seriously, what is it?
According to Wikipedia, the PS2 has sold 140 million units as of July.
I love nintendo as much as the next person, but I don’t see how anything will ever surpass the sales of the ps2 :o)
I may be wrong, but I read that the Wii has already sold more in its first two years than the PS2 did.
Well, looking at the long run, I checked wikipedia for the sales figures for the ps2 and the wii. The ps2 has been out since 2000 and has reached 140 million units, that comes out to about an average of 17.5 million units per year it has been available. The wii reaching 34.55 million units in two years it has been out, comes to an average of 17.275 million units. I guess if we assume sales will stay constant for the wii, and that it has the longevity it needs to be around long enough it could potentially pass the ps2 :o)
Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
That 17.5 average is misleading, because it assumes that Sony was able to produce that many per year as early as 2000. Sales usually speed up as they go due to demand increasing because of expanded game libraries and production increase.
I think you’ll be happy with where that puts the Wii.
