Hey, remember the Battle Arena Toshinden games? No? Well they were 3D fighters back when just being a 3D fighter was amazing. It was released around the same time as Virtua Fighter and Tekken, but failed to become as large a part of fighting game history. The main thing that set it apart from the others was the fact that it was weapon-based, but when you think “weapon-based 3D fighting game from the mid-90s,” you think of Soul Blade, don’t you?
Anyway, Famitsu has announced a new entry in the series. It doesn’t appear to be part of the story of the original four games, but the simple string-small-combos-to-make-bigger-combos gameplay will be making a return. Toshinden is still in the early stages, so keep an eye out for more details as they become available.
