Sane people facepalm at Cave Story controversy

The upcoming WiiWare version of Cave Story will offer the option to play with higher-detail versions of the original sprites. According to WiiWare World, some fans (probably the same people complaining that Diablo III isn’t completely gray) are upset over this.

But that’s stupid, so the real news story here is that the WiiWare version of Cave Story will have the option to play with updated graphics, should you choose to do so. The new graphics setting will include higher resolution sprites, featuring more detail than the originals, while still managing to keep the charm of the art style. If Pixel had been a team of game developers instead of just one guy, the original sprites probably would have looked like this.

HOW DARE THEY IMPROVE THE GRAPHICS EVER SO SOMEWHAT SLIGHTLY

I’ll probably play the game in it’s 8-bit form. Honestly, the visuals aren’t that different, based on what I’ve seen so far.

But I do have a problem with the difference between those two sprites. Look at the first one, all cute and innocent.. The second one looks a lot more serious and somehow sad. Maybe it’s silly, but I would prefer to run through the entire game with something cute than something slightly depressed.

I think the second one looks a lot cuter and a lot more pleasant. The second one looks pretty blank to me. :P

so basically, upon reading this i proceeded to download this game, and play through it up until today where i have beaten the very end of it. now i can fully comprehend what these people are talking about
i mean i dont have so much a problem with the updated graphics, but why must they ‘modernize’ the music? its going to lose its retro 16-bit like appeal.
i will, without a doubt, buy this game. and ill probably play the updated version too out of curiosity, but i doubt it will compare to the original
