Piracy exploit found in Wii… and being fixed

The term “hacker” may come with a negative connotation, but much of the homebrew community does in fact have a good conscience. One homebrewer, named Bushing, came across a hole in the Wii’s security that could potentially lead the way to ISO-loading programs allowing unmodified Wii consoles to run burned games. What did Bushing do?

He contacted Nintendo and, after a few days, received a reply that Nintendo had indeed received his email and would be in touch. You can bet they’ll be working together to patch the system in the near future thanks to Bushing. Give that man a round of applause.

    Bushing is awesome!

I just wish Nintendo would leave the homebrew community alone, the Wii could be an awesome little box running Linux.

I think he’s great for doing this too (that it was the right thing to do). It saddens me the amount of ROM kiddies who refuse to even consider it that way though.

They probably would if Wii homebrew didn’t go hand in hand with pirating VC and WiiWare games. :P
