Rumor: Konami jumping onboard the retro boat

Published by Pete
Tags: Konami, Retro Gaming, Rumor

With the amount attention and excitement that Capcom’s Mega Man 9 has garnered since it’s reveal, it would make sense that other companies would tap the potential of their classics.

That may be exactly what Konami is planning, according to the latest issue of EGM. No word on a particular franchise, but I’m having a really good time with Contra 4. Something along those lines would be very welcome.

Threat to R4 sales has them flying off of shelves

Published by Pete

Reported earlier this week, Nintendo (as well as many other developers) are taking a stand against DS piracy. Not surprisingly, gamers everywhere have been buying the little cartridge that could at record paces since the legal announcement. Stores all over Japan are sold out, with one retail worker adding:

The rush in demand has been amazing. These devices always sell well. But this weekend should be staggering, don’t you think?

Reminds me a little of Y2K.

LiveMove 2 reveals the potential of WiiMotion Plus

Published by Pete

I’m sure the prospect of 1:1 motion may seem like something that may never happen, but this video may change your mind. I’ll admit it, I was a bit skeptical when WiiMotion Plus was revealed, but the above tech demo (straight from a co-developer of the technology) has me pretty excited. Spring ‘09 has never seemed so far away.

Okami Wii sees lackluster sales

Published by Pete
Tags: Okami, Sales Figures, Wii

Capcom released a pile of financial results and sales figures, and hidden somewhere in the back, behind the relish and bottle of v8, were the numbers that Okami managed to churn up on the Wii.

Sadly, 280,000 copies are all that have landed in gamer’s laps in North America and Europe. Was it too late? Is Okami just too hard? Is the style of the game not suited for the Wii audience? All I know is that I bought it. *wipes sweat off forehead*

EA is looking to find a home on Nintendo hardware

Published by Pete

It would make sense that the industry powerhouse, after being quoted regretting the level of Wii support, would go on to reveal that they currently have 40 titles in the works for Nintendo hardware.

That is a pretty big number, and if Boom Blox is any sign of what’s to come gamers should be in for a treat. Speaking of Boom Blox, EA also said that the game has crossed the 450,000 mark. Good news after the 60,000 week one.

GTA: Chinatown Wars will support Wi-Fi

Published by Pete

…in some way, shape, or form, that is. The official site for the DS installment of Rockstar’s popular series has been updated with a pretty bare structure, presumably as a placeholder for a full fledged site to come.

The one small bit of news that is revealed on the page is the aforementioned Wi-Fi support. Sure, it might just be speculation at the moment, but with the multiplayer being as good as it is in GTA4, why can’t a man dream?

Dragon Quest flying off shelves and onto the top of charts

Published by Pete
Tags: Dragon Quest V, Nintendo DS, Sales Figures

Dragon Quest V has been doing that thing it does since it’s release in Japan on the 17th of July. In just a few short weeks it soared past the million mark, leaving even the Oneders in the dust. I know that may be hard to believe, but trust me on this one. Eager gamers in the US will have to wait a few more months to get their paws on it, as the series of remakes will make an appearance starting in September.

EA regrets focusing on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

Published by Ryan
Tags: EA, Nintendo

I’m sure that most of us are still shocked to see that our small white box has surpassed all consoles this generation, so it’s no surprise that 3rd parties are and trying to play catch-up. EA’s CEO John Riccitiello, has also shared his regret for focusing his resources on early bets this generation:

…we typically figured out who the market leader was going to be before the start of the cycle and bet with our development resources on that platform. We made the wrong call there (by betting on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), which made this transition harder than it would otherwise be. But now we’re catching up, and I think we’re fine. We’ve got some incredibly innovative Wii titles, incredibly innovative DS titles coming. And so I think that issue’s sort of behind us.

Who would have figured that a small sleek console with a magical controller would be shaking industry giants at this moment? Considering Capcom has also shared their opinion about providing more resources to Wii development, I assume that there are others doing the same. It’s only a matter of time before we should see the fruits of this labor.

Nintendo takes to the seas to battle piracy

Published by Pete
Tags: Nintendo, piracy, R4

…And by seas, I really mean “C”s which, of course, is referring to the courts. Nintendo, and a handful of other developers, have started fighting back against imported “R4 Revolution” for DS” cartridges that allow for easy uploading from the Internet. According to Nintendo the device is:

causing severe damage to our company and software makers, and this is something that we cannot possibly overlook.

It’s nice to see companies actively fighting back against products like this, unless you use one of course. A list of other companies joining Nintendo in the battle after the break.

Red Steel 2 swings with WiiMotion Plus

Published by Pete
Tags: Red Steel 2, Wii, WiiMotion Plus

Although Red Steel 2 may not have show its face yet, Executive Director Alain Corre spilled the beans on the fact that the upcoming title will support Nintendo’s newest add-on. Hopefully this will breathe some fresh air into a franchise with so much potential that wasn’t met by the first game.

Corre also points out that they didn’t know about the device until E3, but wasted no time adopting the technology. I don’t want to get excited, but I just can’t help it! Make me proud, Ubisoft! *screenshot not taken from actual game
