NPD Group: May sales and figures
Wii sales in the United States were down slightly in May, dipping below 700,000 for the first time in three months. Of course, its 675k total was still more than enough to outsell both of its primary competitors. The DS Lite saw an increase to over 452k in May. In terms of software, 7 titles were for Nintendo platforms, and 6 of those were published by Nintendo. In fact, the top order of the software chart looked nearly identical to April, save for the addition of Wii Fit which managed to sell 687,700 units in the month despite its launch in the later half of the month.
On the grand scale, the industry as a whole has already accumulated sales this year exceed the totals from 1997. Crazy, huh? Of course, this was early in the life of Final Fantasy VII and before Ocarina of Time, so of course sales were slow. You can read up on all the top figures from May 2008 after the break.
