Current musical purchases are influenced by in-game music

Did you ever buy a song or album due to the music you heard from a certain game? I always thought that some musical purchasing influences could be found from video games, but according to a recent study 1/3 of gamers actually buy songs found in games.

With the growth of both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, many artists are trying to push their songs as much as possible on various console platforms. The Chicago based rock band Disturbed just had it’s 3rd number one selling album. I wonder how many gamers pre-ordered this album strictly for it’s free Rock Band tracks. I know that I’ve been guilty “bumping” A Flock of Seagulls after a Vice City binge.
