Guitar Hero World Tour to rock with DLC on Wii

Published by Pete

guitarhdd.jpg

While information has been swirling about the next Guitar Hero game for quite some time now, Activision has finally released some official news. The game will be titled Guitar Hero World Tour and is making the claim to be the:

First Game Ever in the Guitar Hero(R) Franchise to Allow In-Game Downloadable Content on Wii

There is still no storage solution, but hopefully that will be resolved before the launch of the game. Also an 8 player “Battle of the Bands” has been confirmed to let two groups fight for supremacy both online and offline (Yes please!) as well as song creation tools to give the user ultimate control. Full press release after the break.

Ken and Morrigan also love golf

Published by Pete

kentitle.jpg

There have been quite a few additional hidden costumes revealed for Capcom’s motion controlled golf game when it hits the states. Now it looks like you can add a few more to the list, with screen shots showing off Ken of Street Fighter fame, as well as Morrigan from Darkstalkers.

Pile that novelty on all you want Capcom, but if doesn’t play perfectly I’m going to have to pass. Unless, of course, I can push the Wii-mote forward and yell “Shoryuken!” for a celebration after making an epic shot. I can’t resist that. More photos after the break.

Kid Icarus plushie is anything but the pits

Published by Pete

icarus.jpg

…or “ick”-arus for that matter. This hand crafted little guy may be a little cute for some fans, but either way it’s a great piece of fan art made by VioletLunchell.

As soon as a Dr. Eggplant plushie shows up, I’m all over it. That is, as long as I can track down a witch doctor to convert it into a voodoo doll. A gamer’s gotta do, what a gamer’s gotta do right?

Tetris takeovers of style and storage

Published by Pete

tetrisfront.jpg

Recently my roomies have been on an Indiana Jones kick in anticipation of the new movie’s pending launch, which means one thing for me. My TV (which is the prime movie real estate in the house thanks to the sound system and screen size) is not open for gaming sessions.

Long story short, I’ve spent a lot of time playing Tetris DS online lately. Unfortunately, my Tetris abilities spiral downward, and most gaming sessions end with me really frustrated. Attempting to ease this overwhelming feeling of failure, I usually flip through a few pages of the internet, and today I came across these two gems, both inspired by my most recent love-hate gaming relationship. More photos after the break.

WiiWare now available in Europe and Australia

Published by Christian

080520drmario.jpgThose of you in the PAL regions have had pretty nice spring. Sure, you had a delay with Brawl, but you got Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit before North America, and you really didn’t have to wait long at all for WiiWare. If indie developers can do the PAL conversions this quickly (albeit, with smaller games), makes you wonder why the big developers with all their large staff take half a year sometimes. Anyway, the titles now available in Australia include:

  • Lost Winds
  • Star Soldier R
  • Dr. Mario & Germ Buster
  • Toki Tori Take 2
  • TV Show King
  • Final Fantasy: My Life as a King

I’m also told you can play demos of these games… if you have the Friend Code of someone who has bought the full game from another region. Whoop-de-doo.

First Look: The Conduit trailer

Published by Michael

As promised by founder Kerry Ganofsky, The Conduit looks to be really raising the bar in terms of the Wii’s graphical output (From third parties at least).

Although, while it’s always refreshing to see a pretty game come along, nobody in their right mind remembers it or pays it any attention at all if the gameplay, sound, and story suck. Hopefully we’ll hear a little more about those last three aspects of the game in the near future. But for now, we can all get a little excited about a nice looking and mature shooter on the Wii, something we’re all desperately craving.

Wii Ware Tetris title might include balance board controls

Published by Pete

balance-tetris2.jpgThe Executive Vice President of Hudson in Japan, Kentaro Murayama, recently commented on the Wii Ware titles being prepared by the company. Most of the talk was of the two Bomberman games and Alien Crush, as Tetris barely got a sentence. However, that small blurb held some intriguing information. When asked about additional features in the Wii Ware version, Murayama responded:

It features a number of new rules and items. Currently, we’re tossing around the idea of using the Balance Board. The game also supports 6-Player Wi-Fi battle.

An interesting proposition. Obviously, the board could be used for side to side positioning, and with a Wii-mote in hand to take charge of the rotation and fast fall duties, it could be quite fun. If the sensitivity isn’t just right, however, and the mode becomes an instant frustrating mess. I vote try it. What do you think?

Available this week at retail: May 19, 2008

Published by Christian

080519wiifit.jpg

The only Wii or DS game hitting retailers this week will drain your wallet: Wii Fit goes on sale across North America starting this week. For those of you in Europe who already have it and still have money (can I have some?), you can try out THQ’s Battle of the Bands for Wii. It’s like Guitar Hero without the guitar!

Over in Japan, you’re actually getting the real Guitar Hero III this week, along with the usual smörgåsbord of DS games to choose from. As usual, the full release list for this week can be found after the break.

Deja vu: Star Soldier now available on WiiWare

Published by Christian

080519dejavu.jpg

Week 2 for WiiWare in North America shows no signs of Dr. Mario Online RX or Pokemon Ranch. If you honestly can’t wait to play with little creatures in a WiiWare game, Konami’s new Critter Round-Up might be able to do the trick. For those of you like me that can’t stand the rural atmosphere of farming, Hudson has yet another addition to the Star Soldier series for WiiWare this week. Come on, you’ve beaten the other half-dozen Star Soldier games on the VC… it’s time for something new!

  • Critter Round-Up (Konami, 1000 Wii Points)
  • Star Soldier R (Hudson, 800 Wii Points)

Sky Kid flying solo on the Virtual Console

Published by Christian

080519skykid.jpg

Looks like these WiiWare updates might be used as an excuse to give us even less VC games each week. Namco’s Sky Kid is the single Virtual Console game added to the buffet this week, and luckily it’s an okay game for an okay price. Of course, you probably have about $90 already spoken for this week, so this may be lower on the priority ladder.
