NPD Group: April sales and figures

There’s no need to tell you that the Wii and DS dominated the United States sales charts yet again, though it’s notable that the Wii surpassed the 700,000 units sold mark for the second straight month in the U.S. The DS Lite sold through over a bajillion (or 400,000) units as well.

On the software side, Mario Kart Wii came in second place for the month with 1.12 million copies sold in April which, as far Mario Kart was concerned, was a 4-day month. You can read up on all the top figures after the break.

Industry Sales: $1.23 billion (+47% over April ‘07)
Hardware Sales: $426.2 million (+26%)
Software Sales: $654.7 million (+68%)
Accessory Sales: $154 million (+39%)

Nintendo DS: 414,800
PSP: 192,700
Xbox 360: 188,000
PlayStation 3: 187,100
PlayStation 2: 124,400

1. Grand Theft Auto IV (360): 1,850,000 units
2. Mario Kart Wii (Wii): 1,120,000 units
3. Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3): 1,000,000 units
4. Wii Play w/ remote (Wii): 360,000 units
5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii): 326,000 units
6. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (PS3): 224,000 units
7. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness (DS): 202,000 units
8. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time (DS): 202,000 units
9. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Wii): 152,000 units
10. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (360): 141,000 units
