Nintendo loses law suit to the tune of $21 million
Get out the check book Nintendo of America, your happy go lucky days of milking gamers with no remorse are over. Okay, maybe not completely over, but at least taking a little vacation.
A small company in east Texas came out victorious in a law suit that was filed back in 2006 over a patent concerning controller design. The 21 million big ones are owed due to the Wii Classic, Wavebird, and GameCube controllers, but surprisingly not the Wii remote or Nunchuk.
The suit was filed against Microsoft as well, who reached an agreement outside of court. I’m not sure what exactly this patent covers, but it must be beautifully vague. Nintendo plans to appeal and expects a significant reduction.

Well, that stinks. Hm, I wonder how it is that it covers stuff like Gamecube controller and Microsoft’s controller, yet not the PS2 controller? (apparently?)
At least they can afford it now since it prints money. :P
This explains why they aren’t making/selling Wavebirds anymore.
How exactly did Nintendo lose this, they’ve been making video game controllers for 20+ years now.
Ah, wait, you’re right about the Wavebirds I bet. I hadn’t even thought about that. Then again though, they are still making ‘Cube controllers aren’t they?
