Nintendo plays Big Brother with the Nintendo Channel
Nintendo has been acting awfully naughty these past two days. First, they released the Nintendo Channel without any warning or press release. Second, they’re using the channel to not only give you goods and services on upcoming Nintendo titles, but also as a means to see what you’re doing, even when you’re offline. Basically, if you opt to send data to Nintendo, they’ll be asking for a bit more than what games you’re playing. What exactly are you sending them? Pretty much anything Wii related; from the position of your sensor bar, television preferences, your means of internet connectivity (wireless, AOSS, etc), to minuscule things such as whether or not you choose to have your Wii disc slot illuminate when you receive messages.
Of course you can opt out of this option, but then you wouldn’t be able to enjoy the DS Download Service. A bit unfair, no?

Oh noes, market research. Somebody think of the children.
As long as it doesn’t give away any personal information, who cares. Nintendo should see a lot of us playing “No More Heroes”, or “Zack and Wiki” to know how great these games are.
I had that initial knee-jerk reaction myself, but then after I thought about it…it isn’t identifiable to me, and it’s only data pertaining to Wii settings and games I’ve played. The DS Downloads are worth it, plus I’m interested to see what games may be recommended to me (and I also want to be able to ‘recommend’ games and participate in the process…I like letting people know what I think).
i happen to think thats a great idea, as long as they aren’t reading youe messages on the wii message board, it makes sense so that for their next console they will know what people use and will want from there next console.
Like say there was only 5% using the wired option to connect the wii to the internet, then they wouldn’t need to make a wired adapter for the next console etc.
