Available this week at retail: April 28, 2008

Published by Christian under Nintendo DS, Wii

Now that Mario Kart Wii is available in all regions (since Americans are last again…), I’m sure you’ll all be burning rubber this week. For those that aren’t (in either Kart or GTA), there are some other options this week. By options, I mean licensed games like Sega’s Iron Man on both the DS and Wii in North America and Europe. Over in Japan, you’re all finally being armed with the Wii Zapper, as Link’s Crossbow Training should be available later this week.As usual, the full release list for this week can be found after the break.

North America given a “double” game on the VC

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

If you’re a North American Wii owner not currently spending your week playing Mario Kart Wii, then 1.) what’s wrong with you? and 2.) you have a classic alternative to spend your paycheck on. Double Dragon is this week’s lonely Virtual Console addition. Any takers?

The Legend of Papercraft: The Mitt Maker

Published by Pete under Arts & Crafts

Forget about Mario or Link or Pikachu, how about that creepy hand that follows you in some dungeons of Hyrule. This version of the “Floormaster” is from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and does a great job of portraying the game’s style. Sure this is sort of an obscure character to be paper-crafting, but there is no denying how awesome it is.

The best part of waking up, is… Adolf Hitler?

Published by Pete under Misc, Wii

Today while taking Mario Kart Wii for its inaugural run, one of my friends, who created a Mii that looks more like him than he does, showed up advertising coffee in this same spot. I chuckled a little, and made sure to take the same route on the next lap to giggle again.

When I saw this photo posted by Flickr user Truth3, which finally puts those novelty Mii’s to good use, I couldn’t contain myself. The only thing better than ein Glas Kaffee would be Alf’s furry face up there peddling his wares.

On Location: Mario Kart launches in America

Published by Robert under Events, Wii

mario-nws-header2.jpg

Today was the Mario Kart Wii event at the Nintendo World Store. Anyone who was roaming around Rockefeller Center had a chance to get their hands on the title, get free swag and take part in a tournament, amongst other things. After getting detoured en route due to the MTA conveniently doing construction on tracks that I needed to take to get there (thanks, MTA) I had finally arrived at the Store.

Double Dragon punches its way to Europe

Published by Ryan under Virtual Console

doubledragonedit.jpg

I’m pretty sure that most of us “classic” gamers have fond memories of spending multiple allowances trying to defeat those pesky Shadow Warriors. Those lucky folks in Europe now have the chance to use whips, barrels and knives on the NES port of Double Dragon on the Virtual Console. While the NES version was much different than the original arcade game, this version did add a little spice to the adventure with RPG characteristics and extended stages.

While I’ve heard stories about Tetris or shooter addictions, this was the only game I used to see in my sleep. It is only a matter of time before we are able to get this here in the states, and I will definitely be holding my breath for this one. This game has spawned multiple sequels and ports, but which is your favorite?

Plush Nintendo gives a whole new meaning to ‘comfortable with games’

Published by Pete under Arts & Crafts

I’m not exactly sure what inspired Craftster user blueblythe to sew an original Nintendo, but you can’t argue with the results. The flap even opens and closes to allow for the cartriges to be inserted, and if you thought that the system and games were cool, just wait until you see the rest of the set up.

It comes complete with plush light gun, controller, and television with exchangeable screens for the two games. I kid you not, pictures after the break. The whole set up is on display at the Argyle Fine Art Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Sega Superstars Tennis available for $19.99 at GameStop this week

Published by Robert under Deals, Nintendo DS, Wii

sega-tennis-deal.jpg

Sega Superstars Tennis, a title that was released only a few weeks ago, is now available at GameStop for a mere $19.99 and only $14.99 if you opt for the DS version, which were originally priced at $49.99 and $29.99, respectively. I was second thinking this title, but with a price like that you can’t go wrong — well, you can, but it wouldn’t be that wrong of a choice.
