I've got a pair of SNES controllers, a bunch of NES controllers, and basically one and a half N64 controllers. (one of the controllers' joystick is way too wobbly..) It just doesn't make much sense for Nintendo because they can make so much more money on their classic controller. Plus, the more the Classic controllers they sell, the better. Developers are then given the option to develop with a variety of different controller methods and not have to worry about their game being too expensive with the added cost of buying extra controllers just to be able to play.
