Disaster Day of Crisis and Mario Baseball get dates… in Japan

travel-to-japan.jpgWhen the two games will be landing on shelves across the Pacific was recently revealed by Famitsu. Super Mario Stadium Family Baseball comes first on June 19th, with Disaster: Day of Crisis following a few weeks later on July 3rd. Don’t be surprised if these dates change, as footage of either title has been anything but plentiful.

Whether or not these dates pan out, it is nice to see that there is still life for Disaster: Day of Crisis after much speculation as to whether the game had been canned or not. Now all we need is Famitsu to come through with a release date for Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

  • True.

Though H.A.M.M.E.R. was part of Nintendo's push. H.A.M.M.E.R was being developed by Nintendo Software Technology, the team behind Wave Race: Blue Storm, 1080 Avalanche, and Metroid Prime Hunters.

Disaster is made by Monolith Soft, the ones behind the Baten Kaitos and Xenosaga series. Work on Disaster began when Monolith Soft was still 96% owned by Namco.

True... But the fact that they have one major theme in common makes them very similar. They are both new IP's and are both part of a push on Nintendo's part to lift the "kiddie" tag from their system. It's not an incredibly strong connection, but its there regardless.

We all make the same connection with any of the casual games coming out. Picross, Brain Age, and any other game under the "Touch Generations" series is lumped under one category.
  • Heh, if I used that logic to group other games (by revelation date and target audience), you'd all give me funny looks. Nintendo and Monolith Soft didn't coordinate with Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and Disaster, respectively, and yet people assume that whatever happens to one (cancellation, release confirmation, etc.) will happen to the other.

I tend to lump them together because they were announced at the same time, or at least I found out about them at the same time. Plus, both games are a being developed/were being developed with a more mature audience in mind.

I actually can't wait to hear more about Disaster: Day of Crisis.
  • I really don't know why people keep lumping Disaster and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. together. Sure, they would have both been published by Nintendo, but they're being made by two different developers, one of which wasn't yet owned by Nintendo when work on Disaster started.
