Snaking removed from Mario Kart Wii

080317kartfair.jpgThere was nothing more annoying when playing a game of Mario Kart DS online and one of your opponents spasmed his/her way around the track, lapping you withing second just because they were amazing at snaking. Nevermind the fact that I was a snaker, too – I was never that good at it.

Thankfully, the Official Nintendo Magazine has tried the game out and confirmed that snaking has been removed from the series.

“The second big difference (in Mario Kart Wii compared to the rest of the series) is the removal of snaking. Ever since the N64 game, practically every Mario Kart game has included the ability to get a speed boost by waggling the controls left and right as you powerslide. This has finally been scrapped, and now your speed boost is determined by how long you can hold the slide.”

What? You mean we have to control it like an actual car now?

    Huh. Never noticed that.

Just curious, anybody disappointed that “Snaking” is removed? I mean it has existed in Mario Kart since the 64 days.

Also, like Christian said, I’m not good at it either. Being that you have to be that damn good at Mario Kart to “Snake” on command, removing the “Snaking” won’t prevent these cart gurus from owning us all.

I still think there will be enough skill involved in sliding.

I never bothered much with snaking, it just became too hectic. Mario Kart is all about the items, and driving as best as you can manage. Having the snaking part of it removed is nice because newcomers will at least be able to compete on-line.

hmm i never “snaked” on a straight road but i had my double dash skidding down perfect.

So how do you do the power slide without waggling left to right ?

Thank you matthew. I was hoping someone would make that reference.
