Brawl may disappoint some for a limited time
Thought it was bad enough that you had to stand in line for hours to get your hands on Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Well, just be happy yours works. According to Nintendo, there is a small percentage of Wii’s out there that may not be able to read the Brawl disc.
“Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)”
At least Nintendo is very open about the problem and is offering to fix any affected Wii’s for free. Good ol’ Nintendo.

From what I hear, it’s mostly affecting smokers.
So people shouldn’t smoke around their Wii, Maybe they should put a warning on cigarette packaging.
“WARNING: Smoking may stop you from playing you’re awesome Wii games!”
a few people have told me they had this problem, but if they let the wii finish its pre-starting scanning before clicking on the game icon in the wii menu it usually started up fine… something to try if anyone has issues i guess
On a slightly related/unrelated note:
For those of you that ordered through The Tanooki Store/Amazon- did you receive your copy of Brawl?
If so, when did you receive it.
I just want to make sure that all of you are enjoying Brawl right now!
I’d rather deal w/ this than the RRoD :)
Japan had a similar problem with Brawl too, if I recall correctly.
This issue is probably the only thing stopping me from importing Brawl and buying a freeloader right now. I don’t want to have it shipped to the UK only to find my Wii won’t read the disk.
I’m not a smoker or anything, but I’ll bet my bottom err… pound coin that Nintendo of Europe won’t clean my Wii
First problem: Amazon took forever sending me my game! I just got it today!
Second problem: My Wii won’t read Brawl, and it keeps making this funny beeping noise. I think repair is in order……:( I suppose this is as good a time as any to send it in, seeing I have loads of homework anyway. But still! I SO wanted to play!!
And I don’t smoke. So I know that’s not the issue!!!
