Here are some more pics from last night’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament and launch party at the Green St. GameStop in Champaign, IL. This particular shot above is of Joey, GameStop’s manager Josh (holding the trophy that would later be given to the tournament winner), and me. Check out more after the break!

Here we have a better shot of the trophy, bearing a plate saying “Smash Bros. – Local Legend of Wreckage.” Yep, it’s definitely a wrestling trophy. Was it that hard for Nintendo to make plastic Mario trophies? I’m sure the winner would have preferred something that looked a little more… legit.

Unfortunately, the winner wasn’t Joey. He was eliminated from the tournament after 45 seconds. “Wait, you played already? I didn’t even realize you stepped away there!”

Finally, here’s us hanging out with the one and only Kyle Orland (from Joystiq). Yeah, he was there too. Always nice to hear when figures from the bigger sites know of and actually read a small site like ours. It was great meeting you last night, Kyle.

In my defense, there was a pretty big mix up with my slot in the tourney. The only reason they were able to call me up to play was because I was the only player in the bracket who chose to use Mario, and when I was called up, the match was paused with 15 seconds off the clock.

While I was still a little flustered from all the confusion, my opponent scored. I was just about to tie it back up when the remaining 45 seconds had run out. Had we been given the full minute, I think things would have gone differently.

I felt obligated to defend my honor as a Smash Bros. enthusiast. :)

I would have been gone in less than 30 no doubt.. I’m getting better, but I’m still a rookie. My excuse is that this is the first Smash Bros. game I’ve ever owned. So far I’m 50% through Subspace Emissary, and have unlocked most of the characters.

Amazing game.. Where did the last 10 hours go?
