Available this week at retail: February 25, 2008

Published by Christian

It’s a quiet week in terms of releases in most parts of the world. Europe has a few decent titles, most of which they could have gotten a long time ago if you really think about it. Anyone planning on picking up anything new this week?

As usual, the full release list for this week can be found after the break.

Tanooki Mario (and Link and Ash) vinyl Dunny

Published by Christian

080225teeter.jpg

I don’t know what a Teeter is, but I do know that people have developed an affinity for Tanooki Mario here. Not entirely sure why. It’s the reason why you’ll probably appreciate these Nintendo vinyl teeters, dunnies, mongers, labbits, munnies, Mad*Ls, and whatever else they seem to be called.

A few more pictures can be seen after the break. Thanks to Simca for the heads up!

Activision gives refunds for Guitar Hero III

Published by Ryan

guitarmonojpg.jpg

Even though Activision is replacing our defective mono discs, those of us who don’t want to wait can get a full refund. All we need to do is fill-out a form, and mail all the components directly to Activision.

While most of us will be sending our discs back to Activision in the funky envelope that they provided, it’s good to know that Activision is doing everything they can to make up for their mistake.

Valve “Eyes” Wii development

Published by Ryan

valve_wii.jpg

Valve, the developer responsible for the Half-Life franchise has generally created their games on PC, but they have recently expressed their interest on the Wii platform:

If Valve were to develop in-house for another format, it would be the Wii. It’s growing, there’s already a huge user-base, and it’s fun. Source is really scalable. We can do that.

While many people won’t “hold their breath” for Valve to grace us with their presence, it gives all of us hope for another developer to take advantage of the outstanding FPS controls the Wii has to offer.

Eternity’s Child creator raises Holocaust awareness

Published by Michael

Eagle Weeps..

Without stopping to take a breather, Eternity’s Child creator Luc Bernard has already started work on a DS project meant to put players into the shoes of a young Jewish boy growing up in France during the Holocaust. Say’s Luc Bernard of Imagine is the only Escape:

The sad thing is that videogames are still considered toys and not art, I hope that this game can show that games can be just as important as films.

The game takes place in the young boy’s imagination, hence the title, and attempts to educate the player about the atrocities performed on the majority of the Jewish population in the 1930’s and 40’s. However, in Imagination is the Only Escape, Luc Bernard is focusing on the impact it had on the children. Head on past the break for some screens of the upcoming DS title.

Jon Stewart plays Wii Sports at the Oscars

Published by Christian

Coming back from a commercial break, some dozens of millions of viewers watching the Oscars earlier tonight caught host Jon Stewart playing an on-stage match of Wii Sports Tennis. Hm, how’s that for mainstream publicity?

Why does Professor Layton wear the hat?

Published by Christian

It’s not often I get to see some great Nintendo-related webcomics, especially since I don’t get the time to check them all out these days. They’re all about the recent release of Professor Layton and the Curious Village for the Nintendo DS at the moment, with this one focusing on the most important aspect - the hat. Read on at the 2P link below.

You can also check out another Layton comic at my favorite web comic, Penny Arcade.

Mario Kart Wii races to Europe on 11 April

Published by Christian

080224mariokart.jpg

Before Wii Fit lands in Europe on 25 April, and before Super Smash Bros. Brawl hits this summer, you’ll be able to burn rubber in Mario Kart Wii. A European launch date of 11 April has been confirmed by Nintendo of Europe.

“Mario Kart Wii is an eagerly anticipated launch for Europe and we are confident that all those who have enjoyed playing previous Mario Kart games, in particular the Nintendo DS version will be pleased and looking forward to its arrival. Mario Kart Wii encompasses the core spirit of Mario Kart: an incredibly rich and deep gameplay experience that provides never ending fun. And with the Wii Wheel, every member of the whole family will feel comfortable to join in and experience kart racing regardless of whether they are a karting champion or a complete new beginner. With the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service also allowing friends and family to compete around the globe, we are confident that Mario Kart fans won’t be left disappointed with this installment exclusively on Wii.” - Laurent Fischer, Nintendo of Europe

So, Europe will be throwing their share of Koopa shells, complete with up to 12 players online by 11 April. Japan gets their chance on April 10th, and Australia should follow later in the month. Looks like everyone’s got a set release for the game now… oh, wait.

Mario Kart Wii trailer from GDC 2008

Published by Christian

So Wii Fit was and still is my most anticipated game for this Spring. After seeing a ton of new screens and this new trailer? Mario Kart Wii is definitely trying to make this a harder decision. That Wii Wheel is even starting to seem slightly appealing. What’s going on?
