Street fighting set to break out on the Wii?

Published by Michael

General manager of Capcom’s online game development group Yoshinori Ono let it slip that Capcom is serious about bringing Street Fighter IV to as big an audience as possible in an interview with Wired’s Chris Kohler:

Street Fighter IV, as it stands now, would be well-suited for the higher-level platforms. But the game doesn’t have to have these visuals in order to be fun. We could go, potentially, to the Wii. We could make it on Game Boy, for all we know right now. As long as the rules are the same, that can be independent of the visuals. So we’re not going to be limited by any hardware specs; we’re going to aim as wide as possible.

Which would you be more excited for: a Wii release, or a GameBoy version? Check out the rest of the interview for some interesting details about the general design of the game.

Drawn to Life 2: Spongebob Squarepants edition

Published by Michael

Taking a step in a different direction, publisher THQ has decided to take the Drawn to Life gameplay mechanic and slap on a trusted brand in SpongeBob SquarePants. In my humble opinion, SpongeBob SquarePants could sell old, smelly and maggot-infested meat if they slapped an edible sticker on it. Sadly the original developer of Drawn to Life, 5th Cell, will not be handling the sequel for the DS. That responsibility falls on the shoulders of Altron.

The story is standard fare for the SpongeBob SquarePants series: both Patrick and SpongeBob are kidnapped by the drawn clone of SpongeBob from the series, DoodleBob. The player is then tasked with creating his own hero and rescuing the sea dwelling pals.

Defend your Castle seeks shelter in WiiWare

Published by Michael

The flash-based ultra-hit browser game is making its way to Nintendo’s WiiWare service. For 500 Wii points, you get an updated version featuring better and cleaner visuals and variety of different attacks, including an eraser and a bomb. Hopefully multiplayer action will make its way into the updated version as well.

Final Fantasy VII remake, for the NES?

Published by Michael

Imagine a time in your life where you wasted a lot of time and energy, only to come up with something hardly worth the effort. The thing, or event that’s swirling around in your brain right now is nothing compared to this project. Final Fantasy VII on an NES cartridge. Aside from fans of the NES and epic RPG’s, this project has little to no worth.

Had the creator(s) worked on a SNES or highly ambitious graphical update version, it would have been commendable. But seeing as how size limitations forced the removal of Chocobo racing, limit breaks, and Yuffie and Vincent, is there any point in playing a downgrade remake of a game that is already starting to feel dated? Head past the break to check out some screens of the mini epic.

Mario Kart Wii allows lobby text chat; no in-race trash talk

Published by Pete

All those hoping to see voice chat finally surface with the release of Mario Kart Wii may have to bite the bullet just a little longer. With a posting on Nintendo Europe’s official site came the news that text chat would be the primary form of communication.

As groups of friends wait in a lobby they can text each other messages while waiting to start their race. Messages will have to be selected from a set pre-chosen phrases and words, of course. You can’t say exactly what you want to say…it just wouldn’t be Nintendo.

Famitsu says: Resident Evil 0 for Wii

Published by Ryan

residen_evil_0.jpg

While many of us Wii owners have been quite discontent with the sheer amount of ports hitting the Wii these days, Capcom is jumping on the bandwagon as well. According to a Famitsu, Resident Evil 0 is being ported to the Wii using the exact same GameCube engine.

The Wii controls worked amazingly well for the over-the-shoulder aiming in Resident Evil 4, but I don’t know how this is going to work with the old static environments and robotic controls of previous Resident Evil titles. Let’s hope that Capcom eventually quenches our Resident Evil thirst with a completely original title in the future.

Dawn of New Info for Tales of Symphonia

Published by Pete

story1_2.jpg

I would generally find it hard to raise my nose to a Wii exclusive RPG, especially one of a high-quality series like that of the Tales games. However, after 40 hours of the same Beast-Sword Rain combo, I wasn’t exactly pumped about the upcoming title. Fortunately, the battle system of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is much deeper than what often became a 2-D button masher on the GameCube. Those days are long gone.

Players can now move freely among all three dimensions. On top of the new ability to capture monsters and use them in battle, there is a new elemental attribute to attacks to add an element of strategy. Layer on aerial combos and the intuitive unison attacks, and this could be the sweetest battle system in a Tales game yet.

Famitsu eats up Blue Dragon Plus, spits out enormous amount of screenshots

Published by Michael

There’s not much to say except to tell you to jump past the break to drool over 24 screens! Some are detailed, but some are pretty small, yet we can see in some of the smaller gameplay screens that Blue Dragon Plus is headed in the same direction that Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings went in: a real-time strategy RPG. Enjoy some revealing screenshots after the break.

New info on Sonic’s touch based adventure

Published by Michael

NGamer magazine spills a few details regarding Bioware’s Sonic RPG, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, saying that the project makes use of the touch screen extensively in all aspects of the game. For instance, controlling your character, by tapping various objects, ex. loop-de-loops and spring-boards, Sonic will perform the action associated with it. Each character can perform specific actions with specific objects, and each character has their own strengths. Which, if used properly, will allow the player to make progress.

The battle system is very similar to Mario and Luigi’s RPG outings, composed of turn-based combat along with skill based mini-games to spice things up.

Bioware has decided to go with a more linear storyline in Sonic Chronicles, rather than the complex and twisting adventures seen in Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire. Conversation can still be altered depending on the player’s preference, a mainstay in Bioware’s adventures, but it will always lead players to the same endgame conclusion.

Update: Head past the break for some new screenshots of the game.

4-bit Mario quilt: Fan art at its warmest

Published by Nick

mario-quilt.jpg

Mario fan Brian recently revealed to the world a great possession: A Mario quilt hanging in his basement. His wife made it for him five years ago using sixteen different fabrics, which is 4-bit color. It’s 36 columns wide and 44 rows tall, making it about 6 feet by 8 feet tall!

Brian is very lucky to have a wife dedicated to making such a fine work of Mario craftsmanship. Check after the break for some up-close shots.
