I would generally find it hard to raise my nose to a Wii exclusive RPG, especially one of a high-quality series like that of the Tales games. However, after 40 hours of the same Beast-Sword Rain combo, I wasn’t exactly pumped about the upcoming title. Fortunately, the battle system of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World is much deeper than what often became a 2-D button masher on the GameCube. Those days are long gone.
Players can now move freely among all three dimensions. On top of the new ability to capture monsters and use them in battle, there is a new elemental attribute to attacks to add an element of strategy. Layer on aerial combos and the intuitive unison attacks, and this could be the sweetest battle system in a Tales game yet.
