Elderly Kansans Love the Wii–and Fruit Smoothies

Since its debut, stories of the Nintendo Wii surfacing in retirement homes across the country have become almost commonplace. We’ve all heard about how the combination of light exercise, interaction, and fun has proven most beneficial for grandmas and grandpas everywhere–so why is this news blurb from Newton, Kansas any exception? Because I was born in Newton and I thought this story was just plain adorable.
Who knew that Randy Reimer, a dairy farmer recovering from surgery at Presbyterian Manor, would ever come to love video games? The Nintendo Wii has made the Manor a “hip” hangout for the elderly and their young visitors–not to mention that they go all out on Fridays with a Tiki hut and fruit smoothies! Be sure to check out the Newton Kansan’s full story, and maybe even peruse the rest of the local happenings!
